No priming or sanding needed on any piece.  It will work on just about anything – mdf, plywood, metal…  On a side note, I have heard of people needing to use primer, like Kilz or sugar soap, if something is ‘bleeding’ through. This rarely happens but with some old or second hand wooden pieces you don't always know what's been applied before you got it...whatever the result you will not be disappointed :) Our customers on our workshops have told us it's the best product they have ever encountered and takes all the stress out of revamping your tired furniture and the results are just stunning.
